N-power Stipend: Why Payment may not commence as early as stated

The Minister for Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Umar Farouk, in an interview with Channels Television on Friday revealed that payment of N-power April Stipend would commence early this week.

Today being Monday, the hope of the  N-power beneficiaries has been heightened as some volunteers have started inquiring in their Social handles on wether payments have commenced as earlier stated by the Minister.

Contrary to the assuring statement made by the honourable Minister, a source close to the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation has disclosed that the Government Integrated Financial Management  Information System  (GIFMIS) server, where the new payment platform was hosted, has gone down the second time.

Before the March Stipend was paid in April, Myinfoclock made a publication noting that the Server of the new payment platform caused the delay in payment of the March Stipend in April 15, 2020.

The GIFMIS is an IT-based system for budget management and accounting. It is meant to improve Public Expenditure Management processes, enhance greater accountability and transparency across ministries and agencies.

A statement issued by the OAGF's Director of Information, Press and Public Relation, Henshaw Ogbuike in Abuja revealed that the fire outbreak that occurred in the Accountant General's office is the caused of the inefficiency of the Server.

Mr Ogbuike noted that the fire affected the outdoor panels of the cooling system to the server room, and as a result, the server automatically shuts itself down. This had resulted in lack of service on the GIFMIS platform but was restored within 24hours, which facilitated the earlier payments made on the Platform.

The source however disclosed that engineers have been up and running to ensure that the server is returned to function within the shortest period of time.
